Portrait of John T. Hodgen, M.D., by Frank M. Pebbles, 1888. Oil on canvas, framed, with protective glass, total dimensions 69 x 55 inches. A brass plaque on the base of the frame reads: “JOHN THOMPSON HODGEN.” The donor is unknown. The subject was a professor of anatomy and physiology at Missouri Medical College (1854-1864) and at St. Louis Medical College (1864-1882, at which institution he was also dean, 1875-1882). The portrait was restored by McCaugen and Associates in 1972. The item was again restored and damage to its frame repaired by Hal P. Blagbrough, Jr. of Blagbrough Galleries, Inc. in 1994. |
