Woven carpet, inlaid, dimensions 12 ft 2 in x 12 ft 2 in. A brass plaque on a nearby pillar reads: “This carpet design was created by Muriel Nezhnie Helfman (1934-2002) and woven in the Philippines. Inspired by a concept of Bernard and Janet Becker, it symbolizes St. Louis as the confluence of America’s greatest rivers, Washington University School of Medicine as the confluence of teaching, research, and patient care, and the Medical Library as the center of the School. It was installed in the M. Kenton King Center in 1990.” |
