AltaVista Image Search
Type a query and click the Search button. AltaVista retrieves images that contain your search words in their file names, ALT text, nearby text and/or the page metatags.

Images from the History of Medicine - From the National Library of Medicine
This system provides access to the nearly 60,000 images in the prints and photograph collection of the History of Medicine Division (HMD) of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The collection includes portraits, pictures of institutions, caricatures, genre scenes, and graphic art in a variety of media, illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine.
myPACS
A web-based service that allows radiologists to manage their own medical image repositories. Radiologists often keep files of interesting cases for sharing with residents and colleagues or for use in slides or publications. MyPACS allows "radiologists to immediately begin authoring cases through thier web browser, while maintaining complete control over the content and accessibility of their own collection." This is a free service to the international community, funded in part by the National Institutes of Health.

Videos of Surgical Procedures: Medline Plus
From Medline Plus, a service of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. National Library of Medicine, this webpage "provides links to pre-recorded webcasts of surgical procedures. These are actual operations performed at medical centers in the United States since January 2004." Surgical Procedure video categories include Digestive System; Bones, Joints, and Muscles; Cancers; Heart and Circulation; Brain and Nervous System; and more. RealPlayer is required for viewing videos, and the site provides a link to a free download.

As a member of the Washington University School of Medicine, you have free access to full-sized, high quality images in step with the latest developments in medicine. By filling out a simple registration form, you can also start your own image library, create PowerPoint presentations of images in your library, and order customized CD-ROMs of your favorite slides.

Login and password to Ovid Online required. The Caption Text (CT) field includes the descriptive text for tables, figures, and other graphics as they appear in the journal in which the document was published (e.g. biopsy needle.ct).
